Interviewing and On the Job Tips

Preparing for the Interview

  • Arrive early (consider doing a dry run the night before to find the company and scope out the parking situation.)  Know your interviewer’s name & bring an extra copy of your resume.
  • Learn a little about the company prior to your interview.  Ask your recruiter if the company has a website you can visit to learn company details.
  • Dress for success – appropriate dress, good grooming, and positive attitude – always ask your recruiter if you are unsure what to wear – we will be happy to provide you with some guidance.
  • Smile – shake hands firmly – look the interviewer in the eye.
  • Show interest in the company.  Research the company prior to the interview.
  • Be prepared to answer questions such as:
Tell me about your background, accomplishments?
    What are your career goals?
How would your previous experience apply to the job for which you are being interviewed?
What are your key strengths & weaknesses?
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
Why do you feel qualified for this position?
  • Ask questions such as:
What would I be expected to accomplish in this position?
Can you explain the possible career path for this position?
    Why is this position available?
What are this company’s future plans & goals?
  • Closing questions such as:
Based on our conversation & my background, do you feel I am a good fit for the position?
Are there any other questions I can answer?
Thank you for your time & I am very interested in this opportunity.
  • Do not discuss money, benefits, or any matters of convenience.
  • Follow up – send a short thank you card and reiterate your interest in the company and the position you interviewed for.
  • Call your recruiter and let us know your thoughts – good, bad and everything in between.

On the Job Tips

  • Arrive 5 minutes early your first day on assignment.  This will give you enough time to get settled & acclimated to your new job.
  • Dress for success!  Be sure you come prepared with any mandatory dress code items – safety glasses, steel toed boots, closed shoes, no dangling jewelry etc.
  • If you find yourself unsure on how to complete a task, just ask!  And, if the job you are performing is different than what was described by your CPS Recruiter, please call us as soon as possible.
  • Be assertive and show initiative:  always ask if there is something more you can do as soon as you have completed a task.  Think of your assignment as a “working interview”, and prove you are an asset to the company.  Be a team player.
  • Good attendance is critical to your success.  If you are ever running late, or are absent, you must call our office immediately.  Failure to do so is a direct violation of CPS policy and could result in termination.
